Research

After going through three separate ideas for a documentary I decided on one that was about Obsessions which isn't the easiest thing to focus on, because not a lot of people are going to openly admit they have an Obsession, let alone admit it on camera.
there are many different definitions of an obsession "the act of an evil spirit in possessing or ruling a person", "a compulsive preoccupation with a fixed or an unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by symptoms of anxiety", "a compulsive, often unreasonable idea or emotion" The one explanation that I think says it all is this "obsessions are thoughts, images or ideas that wont go away, are unwanted and are extremely distressing or worrying". there are many different obsessions that many people haven't heard of before I have listed a few below with the meaning and what the name of the obsession is:
Ablutomiania- Mania for Washing Oneself.
Anthomania- Obsession with Flowers.
Arithmomania- Obsessive Preoccupation with Numbers.
Catapedamania- Obsession with Jumping from High Places.
Musomania- Obsession with Music.
Rinkomania- Obsession with Skating.
Scribbleomania- Obsession with Scribbling.
OCD- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which is a mental disorder with two components: Obsessions, which consists if thoughts, impulses or mental images; and Compulsions which are repetitive behaviours that the person feels driven to perform in response to the obsession.
In my research I studied the codes & conventions of documentaries and two different documentary film makers Andrew Jarecki and Nick Broomfield.
For example:

History of Documentaries.

Nick Broomfield Aileen Wuornos.

Andrew Jarecki Capturing The Friedmans.

I wrote out a list of documentary makers that I should have investigated for example Paul Watson who started the fly on the wall documentary craze, Michael Moore, Daniel Attenborough, Leslie Woodhead, Werner Herzog, Joe Berlinger + Bruce Sinofsky, Nick Broomfield and Andrew Jarecki.
I then researched two of these documentaries I researched Andrew Jarecki and Nick Broomfield

Analysis of a poster
1. Dramatic image to catch the audiences attention
2. Bold font quite distinguishable font made for themselves original
3. Top of the poster-read from top to bottom, left to right
4. Title- many different ideas from the the title, picture tells you what the program is
5. Time and Date- day release
6. Sponsors logo road in image, car manufacture
7. Broadcaster icons symbol doesn't need channel number
8. White background for title to stand out more
9. Image of guy taking photo of storm gives you a vague outline of what the program is about.
I have used a similar template idea to this poster i have analysed I have followed the forms of a typical media product by using the logo of the channel it is being shown on, the title in bold to make it stand out at the top, and a picture that relates to the documentary.
Analysis of radio
I have researched a few different radio adverts from a website that lets you listen to different radio adverts, I have heard a radio advert for gives the name, name of an employee, gives examples of reasons you would need them, jingle for the company, what they do, how they can help you, what times they can help. I have created a radio advert
Audience research
People who would normally watch a documentary would be people who are interested in knowing the history of things, the age group would  probably change to whatever the documentary is about.
This would be a small niche of people, documentaries are also shown on certain specialist channels for example if you were into sports then you would probably watch a documentary about sports history on a sports channel.
Historical research
The history of documentaries-  The first ideas of Documentaries where started by a pair called Auguste and Louis Lumière (in the pre 1900s) the films they made were called actuality films because they were made by using single shot moments captured onto a film. These were approximately 2 minutes long in footage. These actuality films were mainly of boats docking at harbours, trains entering and leaving stations, and factory workers going and leaving work.
In the 1900s travelogue films were produced these are basically virtual tourism and travel documentaries.
in the 1920s Robert J Flarherty introduced Romanticism this was done by producing "The Nanook Of The North".
Consideration of Institutional Platforms.
Documentaries are shown from different platforms for example in cinemas, websites, youtube, Specialist channels etc, etc. there is a niche community of people who watch documentaries these people
