Planning

In my planning I asked an expert if she would be able to talk about OCD and how it can effect people. I also asked someone I new who I didn't know had an OCD type obsession, well until she told me. So I sorted out two sets of questions for each of them to answer I gave them the questions about five minutes before I started filming this was so they had time to process them.
I wrote out these questions for my friend to answer
Why do you feel the need to re-wash your hands throughout the day?
What forces you to do this?
Does it affect your life in anyway?
Can you control the urges telling you to wash your hands at times or is it something you have no control over?
Does this coincide with anything else?
Does something on its own trigger the impulse to wash your hands?
Can you explain why you do this?
The questions for the expert Charlotte Munro
What is OCD, what does it mean?
What are the symptoms of an obsession like OCD?
How can you help someone who suffers from OCD?
What does CBT stand for in the medical language, simplified?
Why should someone ask for help or need help with their OCD?
How can doctors help someone who suffers from OCD?
Can you get OCD from the environment or is it a genetic disorder?
Is there any specific age when you can ask for help with OCD?
Is there any danger in have an OCD?
Do you need any specific help if you have an OCD?
I wrote out what I wanted in my documentary in the form of a script which is shown below
Opening music, titles
(Caitlin's piece for intro music.)
(Different images of OCD habits.)
Olivia- a few seconds washing her hands
(Talking about her ocd with a few clips being shown of other ocd habits as well.)
(Freeze frame picture taken to use in opening title sequence.)
Charlotte Munro- Interview about obsessions and ocd in general
(Her name underneath explaining who she is, who can help and why you should get help from a doctor.)
Someone talking about when they first started noticing they had an obsession
(still shots, and interview with a person only showing the silhouette of them with a name saying anonymous.)
Someone arranging pencils
(Expert talking over the top of the images shown, using other examples.)
Someone walking out and re entering to walk out of a room again
(Someone walking through the blue door entering Northcote.)
(Changed doors to a classroom door, use of electrics needed.)
Olivia- Talking about her ocd's and what she must do
(Voice changed to sound different to her normal voice, unrecognisable.)
Using hand sanitizer throughout random times of the day
(Someone throughout the day at different times, filmed all in one day or over a period of different days with the problem of outfits and weather.)
(Picture taken only to use as opening sequence.)
Park scene where the person is walking with an adult like person talking inaudible with slow peaceful background music
(Walking up to the camera then passing and continuing walking away from the camera then putting a motherly arm around the person while the end credits run through.)
(Using someone hopefully jasmine and a teacher walking up to and past the camera...or using a green screen...possibly.)
(Voiceover, sound overlays, visual effects, editing, pace of documentary
Editing- slow/fast pace)
(Form- signed by Olivia Butler Stroud, Caitlin Foxgold, Charlotte Munro, Steph Heath and Jasmine Stowford.)
Storyboard
Instead of using a storyboard sheet I created a timeline sheet showing what is to happen throughout the documentary but

Human resource planning
I planned when I was going to film by considering the problems of actors being in lessons and doing coursework, this made it very difficult to work with because we sometimes overlapped with the lesson timings which was a problem at first untill we had to start filming during breaks and lunches which didn't exactly give us much time.
Equipment planning
I needed to use a few different technologies to complete my documentary. I had to use cameras, tripods, mics, and laptops. I had to fill out a loan sheet saying what time what technology and when it would be returned this was always a problem because there was a limited supply of all these technologies.
I used a microphone because I needed the voices during the interview to be clear.
I used laptops to edit some of the work I had done via GarageBand.
I used a few tripods because the cameras needed to be stable and not move while the shots were being taken. I used cameras well because I needed to film different parts of my documentary.
I used loan sheets to make sure I was organized when I needed to film or edit my work.
Target audience
My target audience for this documentary is teenager from the age of about 15 to adulthood, because they might be more incline to watching and getting to know more about the disease itself or may be suffering with it.
Synopsis of text
A synopsis of text is a vague outline of the media product
so basically in my documentary, I have a title sequence with the word Obsessions... scrolling around the screen on a plain black background this is followed by an actor washing a surface and different clips of obsessive actions with a narrator talking about ocd and giving some facts about it, which fades out to then fade back in to an expert talking about ocd and what it means. then I show some footage over the top of the expert talking to show different ways it can effect you. this also follows with different ways you can be helped and who by and why you would need help I then show the ending credits with the same musical piece as at the begining of the documentary.
Draft ideas
I had two different ideas for a documentary. The first one was about a teenagers life and going through school and college and how they are affected by peer pressure and other social pressures while in school. The second one I thought about was Obessions and how they affected peopole from different age groups and what can be a cause and prevention or helping someone with an ocd.
I chose the latter of the two options mainly because it did seem most interesting but also because I couldnt find many people willing to talk about a school life and troubles, which also didnt help with the idea of doing a documentary on obsessions.
